YouthVille Detroit

As an outgrowth of its mission and vision, DYF established YouthVille Detroit, a comprehensive, multi-service youth development facility designed to promote positive development among young people from ages 11 to 19. The 73,000 s.f. YouthVille facility, located within the New Center area in the City of Detroit, provides a central place for youth to gather in a safe environment while learning new skills and developing positive peer and adult relationships.

The YouthVille program promotes a holistic and integrated approach to developing youth by enhancing emotional, social, physical, mental and academic well-being through providing direct programs and research and in partnership with others.

With programs designed for and by kids, YouthVille Detroit offers a broad range of youth development activities from art to computers, academics to fitness, Web radio broadcasting to music studio recording and much more within six core areas. It also provides multiple opportunities for adults to volunteer and interact with youth

Community Engagement Activities

DYF also works to strengthen community resources.  It makes strategic grants to model youth projects, promoting public will for youth and broadly circulating and supporting positive youth development.  By engaging with other organizations in collaborative efforts, DYF is able to influence youth policies and, hopefully, influence systems to better support youth and their communities.  For example, in conjunction with United Way, it brought a national training program to Detroit to train youth workers.  With funding from a local foundation, it collaborated in facilitating community forums to discuss building stronger families and, in another project, engaged youth in community planning and community development processes.
